“Ghost of Tsushima Legends” is the multiplayer expansion of the acclaimed action-adventure game, “Ghost of Tsushima”, developed by Sucker Punch Productions. While the base game was grounded in historical reality, “Legends” explores the rich tapestry of Japanese folklore and mythology.
Different from Jin Sakai’s tale of honor and revenge in the main game, “Legends” divides the narrative into co-op tales featuring four legendary warriors. The stories, narrated by Gyozen the Storyteller, take players through tales of vengeful spirits, mythical creatures, and the dark realm of Tsushima threatened by an evil force.
“Legends” maintains the breathtaking visual fidelity of the base game. However, it sets itself apart with a more ethereal, dreamlike aesthetic. Locations are bathed in otherworldly hues, and environments encapsulate the eerie essence of Japanese myths. Character and enemy designs, while reminiscent of the main game, take on more fantastical elements, imbuing a sense of wonder and fear.
Exploring the World:
While exploration isn’t as open-ended as the single-player campaign, the mythical lands in “Legends” are brimming with secrets, shortcuts, and strategies to discover, rewarding teamwork and communication.
Combat System:
Combat is a harmonious blend of stealth and direct confrontation. Each class brings a distinct combat style, encouraging diverse team compositions. For instance, while the Samurai can engage foes head-on, the Assassin is more suited for stealth takedowns.
Enemy Behavior:
Enemies in “Legends” are more varied, introducing supernatural foes alongside Mongol warriors. Players will face the undead, spirits, and other creatures of lore. Their behaviors range from simple attack patterns to complex tactics requiring coordinated team efforts to defeat.
“Ghost of Tsushima Legends” is a masterclass in how to expand an already stellar game. It not only introduces cooperative gameplay but does so with a fresh, mythical twist that complements the base game’s historical narrative. The class system encourages multiple playthroughs, and the mythical enemies keep combat engaging. For those who loved the original “Ghost of Tsushima”, “Legends” is an essential experience that brilliantly merges history with folklore.
